Hi Tom!  I'm excited to meet all the folks at Reuters and start working together on providing better solutions.  I've been working for Thomson for seven years now (started right out of college) and really enjoyed my time so far.  Interesting enough, my wife, brother, and brother-in-law also work here.  Although at different times, we all started at Thomson right out of college.

Yesterday Le Monde published a good article about the Reuters-Thomson combination.  After summarizing all the conflicts they amusingly pronounced it was "a true bag of nodes!":

There are French idioms for almost every merger classification, but this one was especially great.  Even if you do not read French, if you say this with a French accent it comes out fairly amusing.

(For anyone just trying to flavor their coffee with hazelnut, it's "noisette" and not "noeuds" so you simply ask for "Un vrai sac des noisettes !")

I have temporarily located to Bangalore from the US, and was interested in working part-time at Reuters, Bangalore.  My academic credentials include a PhD in an engineering discipline.  However, it is near-impossible to get in touch with anyone in your Bangalore office.  I am being given the runaround on the phone.  I went to the office in person but courtesy and politeness seem not to be part of the Reuters employee's mental furniture.  I hate writing to you over so trivial a matter but I thought you should know.

I work in Canadian TV news (as a video editor) in Montreal, and have over many years pushed the agenda of youth empowerment in the media, encouraging youth to take hold of the adult tools of our trade , to make the world a better place.

One result of my intervention was the genesis of Canada's first youth channel (YTV) , which initially was offered as non-profit "KIDSCAN TV" to the Canadian regulator , the CRTC.

Another was non-profit eMage.ca , dedicated to youth empowerment in New Media and broadcasting. I am proud to say that I have been informed that www.telediversite.ca will honour the organization I founded, next week.

I humbly suggest to Thomson and Reuters that they offer Tangible Community Benefits, as Canadian broadcasters do (to the CRTC) when they acquire each other, that impact on community cultural and economic development.

Youth creativity, entrepreneurship, and news acquisition would be a winning area in which to do so.

I have taken steps to initiate a worldwide collaborative studio that would enable youth creaters to earn academic and entrepreneurial credit on behalf of small business, in social network style.

Any thoughts on how such an initiative could help hurdle the regulatory battle ahead ?

Hi Tom, I just stumbled on your home page and blog and found it very interesting! As a Thomson employee I'm very excited about the future of our companies. If you ask me, the Thomson-Reuter deal seems to be the deal of the century, the synergies are obvious and the increased value to shareholders and customers is undisputed. But then again, that's what Daimler and Chrysler said as well.....the power of two separate company cultures and structures should not be underestimated. However, I'm confident that we will succeed in creating a company that will change the game when it comes to professional information!

Since the official annoucement came out in May07 about the Thomson's acquisition of Reuters, I haven't got the chance to write or comment about it. Maybe because I have mixed emotions about the deal. First, everybody knows that I am a die-hard Thomson fan. I already spent more than half a decade in Thomson (moved around, rose from ranks, worked with fantastic people and its sad to know that the Board had decided to name Thomson Financial as Reuters or shall I say TF will carry the name Reuters after the European Commission has approve the integration by Q108 . We were hoping it could be "Thomson-Reuters" or "Reuters-Thomson" just like Time-Warner, JP Morgan-Chase or Sony-Ericsson but sadly, it will only be Reuters name alone. On other hand, I'm also thinking, the heck with Thomson name..Reuters is an outstanding brand. So it's cool to be connected with it. Actually, I remember when the Glorietta 2 blast happened in Phils, it was Reuters who first broke the news - not CNN, BBC or even the local networks. It was Reuters. So I guess, I'll just sing "Good Riddance Time of Your Life" by Green Day when we bid farewell to the name Thomson Financial soon.
